Next time you’re packing up for the day set the reel to just-over-creep so you can measure it with a drag scale. Then adjust the strike drag setting to 8 - 10 lbs. over creep. The nomad hooks aren’t my favorite configuration but if you switch to VMC hooks you’ll have to add another split ring and I like that even less.
What size mirrolures? I use #6 VMC or Gamakatsu on MR 17, 18, and 27's I use # 4's on MR 52's I remove the middle hook and I do add a split ring on the back hook on 52's
I keep it simple and minimize hardware. I make a long chicken rig out of 150 lb mono leader. The drop loops are about 6" long maybe 12" apart. 6/0 - 12/0 VMC saltwater circle hooks. Dont have to over think it.
Mike, I replace both trebles on mine with VMC offset eye hooks. These are scaled down hooks like are used on the large Yo Zuri offshore plugs. Makes a world of difference to not deal with both trebles. Each pack is marked with hook size and weight, so you can replace the treble weight with a similar weight single to keep the action going. K
Hi: We tarpon fish with pogies, threads, and mullet in NE Florida using VMC Tournament 7385 7/0 and Owner Mutu Light 5314 7/0. Great hook up ratio and never broken either. The VMC hooks are less expensive and I like the non-offset feature. We go through too many hooks with sharks and other non-target fish to mess with customization. Both these hooks just work and are used by guides.
