Super Saiyan debuted on the manga in March and then on the anime 3 months later? That's crazy fast turnaround for an anime adaptation, no? Technically the Lord Slug movie featured it before Toriyama even had the design finished. Goku's transformation in that movie is now known as False Super Saiyan or some such.

The reasoning for humans being able to go Super Saiyan was that there was a chunk of the population - especially thanks to time travel shenanigans for the player character - that were distant descendants of Goku and Vegeta, though you'd need the Dragon Balls to go Super Saiyan So I wonder then if that ties in for our apparent player protagonist
Goku became Super Saiyan first, when episode 95 aired in Japan on . Which was well over a year for Super Sonic debuting in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, which released November of 1992. Sonic requires the Emeralds to transform, Goku has no external stipulations for his transformation beyond the response for a need / extreme anger.

I remember reading the rational behind Super Saiyan God just being Goku but red was that his different forms were getting away from Goku's base design and this was a sort of course correction. I feel like Blue kind loses that by just being Super Saiyan but blue.
