I was hoping to transition from my old wrist stop watch to my pixel watch for keeping the official game clock. My problem is no matter what I try, if I start the timer for a 12 minute quarter, I cannot figure out how to leave the screen on that timer.

I am trying to use google now/assistant to start a stopwatch (that counts up) but when I say "stopwatch "or "start stopwatch" it only does a web search. I want it to work like "start timer" does.
To stop your Pixel Watch from receiving calls, use your phone to go to Settings > Connected devices > tap the settings icon next to Pixel Watch > scroll down to Phone calls and toggle it off.
Go to your phone's Settings > Apps. Find your watch plugin app (e.g., "Galaxy Watch4 Plugin" or "Google Pixel Watch"). Tap Permissions and deny the Phone permission. Note: This might stop you from seeing who is calling on the watch, but it usually stops the audio from transferring automatically.
If your watch and your phone are synced, you can dismiss a timer on your phone from your watch. When your timer goes off, you'll see a notification on your watch. If you exit the app while a timer is running, you can see the timer progress and come back later. To reopen the app, open your list of notifications and tap Timer Open.
On some watches, you can turn off your watch’s screen temporarily, so it doesn’t light up or show notifications, even if you move or tap the watch. Swipe from right to left until you see Theater mode.
