Robert The Bruce

Robert the Bruce (born —died , Cardross, Dumbartonshire, Scotland) was the king of Scotland (1306–29), who freed Scotland from English rule, winning the decisive Battle of Bannockburn (1314) and ultimately confirming Scottish independence in the Treaty of Northampton (1328).

Six weeks before he seized the Scottish crown in March 1306, Robert the Bruce murdered his closest political rival.
