Lettere is a comune (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Naples in the southern central Italian region Campania, located about 30 km southeast of Naples. Lettere borders the following municipalities: Angri, Casola di Napoli, Corbara, Gragnano, Ravello, Sant'Antonio Abate, Tramonti.
A few kilometres from the archaeological site of Pompeii, in the hills of the Lattari Mountains, stands the Castle of Lettere, a place rich in history and charm, where medieval architecture meets breathtaking views of the Gulf of Naples and Vesuvius.
In the 10th century the Duke of Amalfi commissioned the Castle of Lettere to protect his northern borders. It was part of a network of fortifications that allowed the Amalfitans to control both sides of the Lattari mountains.
