The Khyber Pass[a] is a mountain pass in the Khyber District of the Pakistani province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, along the international border with Afghanistan. It connects the town of Landi Kotal to the Valley of Peshawar at Jamrud by traversing part of the White Mountains.
The name Khyber is also applied to the range through which the pass runs—a series of arid broken hills that form the last spurs of the Spīn Ghar (Pashto: “White Mountains”) Range. On either side of the connecting ridge are the sources of two small streams, the beds of which form the Khyber gorge.
The Khyber Pass is a mountain pass located in the northwestern region of Pakistan, near the border with Afghanistan. It is one of the most important and historically significant passes in the world, serving as a major trade and transportation route between Central Asia and South Asia.
Khyber Agency (now Khyber Tribal District) is named after the world famous Khyber Pass, the most vital and important pass connecting Pakistan and Afghanistan. Khyber Tribal District (TD) is located between 33° 45′ to 34° 20′ north latitudes, and 70° 30′ to 71° 27′ east longitudes.
One of the 38 administrative districts of the province, Khyber takes its name from the winding Khyber Pass, snaking between snow-covered mountains of Hindu Kush and Sefed Koh ranges, varying in width from 3 to 137 meters.
