Aufbau Eines Neurons

Introduction to neurons and glia. How the structure of a neuron allows it to receive and transmit information.

Learn about the structure and function of neurons in the nervous system with this educational resource from Khan Academy.

Neurons (or nerve cells) are specialized cells that transmit and receive electrical signals in the body. Neurons are composed of three main parts: dendrites, a cell body, and an axon. Signals are received through the dendrites, travel to the cell body, and continue down the axon until they reach the synapse (the communication point between two neurons).

This video introduces the function and functional types of neurons. Neuron function involves processing and transmitting information. Key components include resting potential, action potentials, and the roles of dendrites, axons, and neurotransmitters. The nervous system contains different types of neurons, each with a unique role. Learn about synapses, the connections between neurons in the nervous system, and how they transmit signals efficiently on Khan Academy.

Neurons are similar to other cells in that they have a cell body with a nucleus and organelles. However, they have a few extra features which allow them to be fantastic at transferring action potentials:

In neurons, however, the resting membrane potential is close but not identical to the K + equilibrium potential. Instead, under physiological conditions (conditions like those in the body), neuron resting membrane potentials are slightly less negative than the K + equilibrium potential.
