With the unification of north and south Yemen in 1990, Aden was no longer a national capital but remained the capital of Aden Governorate which covered an area similar to that of the Aden Colony.

Aden, city of Yemen. Situated along the north coast of the Gulf of Aden, it lies on a peninsula enclosing the eastern side of Al-Tawahi Harbour. The peninsula enclosing the western side of the harbour is called Little Aden. From 1968 until 1990 Aden was the capital of South Yemen.

Description The city of Aden was established within the crater of an extinct volcano, forming a natural horseshoe shape open to the sea on its eastern side, known as the "Front Bay." Together with its surrounding geographic landscape, Aden constitutes a cohesive socio-economic unit.

Aden (Arabic: عَدَنْ ʿAdan) is a city in the Yemeni Coastal Plains, on the Gulf of Aden at the southern end of the Red Sea. It is a very picturesque city with a mix of traditional Arabic and British influences.

Aden is one of the most important and oldest coastal cities in the Arab world, thanks to its strategic location on the Gulf of Aden and its history that spans thousands of years.

It is also the administrative centre of the Aden governorate. At the time of writing, Aden was the internationally recognized capital of Yemen and recent developments regarding efforts to separate Aden as an independent city in Yemen have not been incorporated in the analysis.
