The Giver is a 1993 young adult dystopian novel written by American author Lois Lowry, and it is set in a society which at first appears to be utopian but revealed to be dystopian as the story progresses.

The Giver: Directed by Phillip Noyce. With Brenton Thwaites, Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep, Alexander Skarsgård. In a seemingly perfect community without war, pain, suffering, differences, or choices, a young boy is chosen to learn from an elderly man, the true pain and pleasure of the real world.

Something he's never even heard of. No one really knows what the Receiver does other than the Giver. Soon Jonas learns that the Giver holds the collected memories of the societies long since past and passes it along to the next generation.
