Riya, showing-off or ostentation, is to do an act of worship to be seen or praised, and thereby desire a benefit other than Allah’s reward or nearness. The place of riya is the spiritual heart.
It will not be considered showing off (riya) but a weakness we humans sometimes make, but nothing to worry about. It is human nature. A person realizing that his action is or can be ostentation or showing off is an acknowledgment of his humility.
Minor shirk: This includes showing off (riya’), which is the opposite of sincerity (ikhlas). It means performing acts of worship for the sake of being seen by others. This is a major sin, and the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said: “What I fear most for you is a minor shirk.”
