My rir x light brahma hatched yesterday are 1 yellow and 1 brown reddish color. The father is the rir the mother is the light brahma (white with black). So if I understand correctly, the lil yellow chick is male, the other is female? Any pics what they will look like full grown?

I am interested to know what the physical characteristics of the offspring were and if the egg color produced by the hens of such a cross was brown or green or mixed. (I have an Ameraucana/EE (?) rooster and RIR & black sex link hens.) Thanks! Edited post to correct spelling/breeds--thx Illia!

Now I did have rir roosters 2 weeks before incubator that's why I started my hatching to get some more rir hens. So I am shocked I have black chicks. Has anyone experience this? Also now for 2000s they are calling the hybrid rir hens to the white leghorn a California tan. Which is the white chicks with black or red splash.

I could tell right away on my RIR, as chicks the females had brown markings on their backs, males did not. Also the females grew tail feathers probably 1-2 weeks before males. At 5-6 weeks the feathering looked the same but males had a noticeably larger and redder comb. Females were still yellow comb. Mine came from townline, and happen to be easy to sex. The RIR over a Speckled Sussex looks like a watered down Sussex as well. I only have 1 RIR hen but I am having the darndest time getting the eggs to hatch. They either die young in the shell, are infertile, or just don't hatch for some crazy reason. I can't figure it out. She lays huge, thick shelled eggs daily.
