Got a hole in the lower brake fluid reservoir by the rear brake pedal on an '06 VTX 1800 R . Anyone know where I can get a replacement . I'm in Pa. a little south of Harrisburg if that helps any . Thanks , riders.
When the system cools down, the coolant stored in the reservoir is pulled back into the radiator by the reduced pressure. After this passing back of coolant into the radiator, the reservoir will normally be left with almost one third of the liquid coolant. Therefore, the coolant reservoir works as more than a bottle to hold excess fluid."
As far as burping the system after emptying/refilling the reservoir, I would say you probably wont have to burp the system If you don't introduce air into the main system then you shouldn't have to burp air out of it. The tank is only connected to the motor by a small line running from the radiator cap/filler neck. (on my early bike)
I'm looking for a Hoggone hoseless brake reservoir for my 1800. Are these still available and if so where is that?
If the reservoir gasket is crimped or brittle it will allow air into the system, obviously causing spongy brakes and fluid loss. this happened to my bike as it was sitting in storage, both the front and rear. It appeared to me that the fluid actually deteriorated the gaskets over time. Of course mine sat for 15 years not 6 months. But still.
Fellow VTXer's, I believe at least two people make a Rear briake reservoir that mounts on top of the master cylinder, eliminating that funky plastic jug and hose over the exhaust. Anybody know who they are and which is the best? ******* :?
