Short answer: Dell Latitude 5000, 7000, 9000 series, Dell Precision Series, Lenovo Thinkpad series…all are good reliable choices. Longer answer: When looking at some of Lenovo’s options, the Thinkpad T-series and possibly P-series seem comparable to Dell’s Precision line. The Thinkpad E-series looks more comparable to Dell’s Latitude line.
I chose Lenovo, but we’re currently a Dell shop. Dell is great for ease of firmware and driver updates, but Lenovo’s DaaS (Devices as a Service) offering is currently one of my Dream purchases, They handle all of the difficult bits of dealing with the hardware (issuing it out, collecting it when it’s old or employee is termed, etc.).
I prefer Dell over Lenovo. In my experience, Dells tend to be easier to work on than Lenovos, and that’s huge when you’re managing a fleet of laptops (and desktops). I’ve also had great experiences with Dell sales reps and tech support during my time at my last job.
In the past I have been a loyal buyer of HP products, especially Proliant servers, but the last server I purchased was a disappointment. I have also been disappointed with the quality of all HP products lately so I looking into purchasing either Lenovo or Dell rack mount servers. The other odd thing about their laptops is there is a power reset button on the laptop. But overall I have been pleased with Lenovo and support is not bad, not as good as Dell but still decent. Server wise we are all Dell, but we have a server overhaul project this year and we are deciding if we are going Dell or Lenovo.
