The Comprehensive R Archive Network (CRAN) provides access to resources, packages, and documentation for the R programming language.
If you want to double-check that the package you have downloaded matches the package distributed by CRAN, you can compare the md5sum of the .exe to the fingerprint on the master server.
Please do not submit binaries to CRAN. Package developers might want to contact Uwe Ligges directly in case of questions / suggestions related to Windows binaries. You may also want to read the R FAQ and R for Windows FAQ. Note: CRAN does some checks on these binaries for viruses, but cannot give guarantees.
CRAN Task Views aim to provide some guidance which packages on CRAN are relevant for tasks related to a certain topic. They provide tools to automatically install all packages from each view. Currently, 49 views are available.

CRAN itself does no longer mirror source snapshots (as of 2001-11-14), because it makes only limited sense to propagate archives that change on a daily basis through a network of mirror sites. When a snapshot reaches one of the final nodes in the mirroring process, there are already 2 newer versions available at the orginal sites.
CRAN task views aim to provide guidance which packages on CRAN are relevant for tasks related to a certain topic. They give a brief overview of the included packages which can also be automatically installed using the ctv package.
