BlaBlaCar is French / UK based and seems to have some good reviews for low-priced carpooling (Florence to Bologna 1.5 hrs @ 8 USD; By comparison: Train, 38 mins @ $30-50 USD; Bus, 1.45 mins @ $25-30 USD)—yet…I remain skeptical. Rates seem too good to be true? Does anyone have feedback or suggesti...
It's actually BlaBlaCar -- in addition to individual car drivers, they offer some bus routes.
Do you have any experience with taking a ride with a ride share posted on BlaBlaCar on-line site for ride-sharing? BlaBlaCar may or may not have been much cheaper than the bus, but the travel time was perhaps 1/3 as long. I might have tried it if I had not been traveling alone. For long trips, I think the speed might approach that of the train (not TGV, obviously) but at close to the price of a much slower bus--and without the expense of last-minute rail fares.
