Messiah comes from the Hebrew word, Mashiach, meaning “ the anointed one,” or “the chosen one.” In Old Testament times, prophets, priests, and kings were anointed by oil when they were set apart for these positions of responsibility.

The Jewish people knew the Messiah was coming, but they misunderstood what He was coming to do. They believed the Messiah—the Christ—would come to set up a kingdom on earth and deliver them from their Roman masters.

It no doubt would be of interest to some that Jews For Jesus, also known as Messianic Jews, printed a book telling how a number of Jews came to believe in Jesus as the Messiah. Four of those folks described how the prophecy of Daniel 9:24-27 played an important role in convincing them that Jesus was the Messiah. He became the Lord of their lives.
