Microsoft is still asking for CNAMES to 'webdir.online.lync.com' and 'sipdir.online.lync.com' but neither response anymore including to the 443 and 5061 ports. Googling and not finding anything about the requirement being removed but the 'check health' for DNS under settings still looks for these.

Note : the Lync 2010 client, runs the binary communicator.exe which harkens back to the days of Microsoft Live Communication Server 2005. The Lync 2013 client runs the binary named lync.exe. After client logging is enabled, recreate the issue: If necessary install Snooper.
