Bhagavata Purana (not to be confused with the Bhagavad Gita!) is one of the most important Hindu texts. Also known as Srimad Bhagavatam, it is one of the 18 Puranas. The book is credited to Veda Vyasa and encourages bhakti or devotion towards Krishna who is an avatar of Vishnu.
