My recommendation, based on 25+ years of driving Toyota 4WD vehicles, is to stick with the OEM Denso air filter. Same with the oil filter - stick with the OEM Denso filters, whether your engine is the single-VVTi version with the spin-on filter, or the dual-VVTi version with the cartridge style filter.

Cars they sell (or are brought into) in CA have to get the special emmissions stuff. Its all related to emissions.
