Nikon NX Studio version 1.9.0 upgrade problem. I downloaded the new version today, but I could not get into the program as the Nikon ID log on--something new--did not work. I uninstalled the new program and reinstalled version 1.8.0 and all is now working. According to Nikon, you now need to use ...

The Nikon engineers could have labeled then R1, R2, R3, and R4. When you set the ring to R4 it means that if you shoot at f/4 you will get optimum sharpness on your subject and background bokeh at this setting. Setting it above or below will start to affect the sharpness of the subject.

Having reluctantly sold my Nikon gear to get a small rf rig for widesand normals, I found a real bargain F2AS. Because the DP-12 meterdoesn't work, and because it was in the sale, I got it for less thanthe cost of a Sekonic L308B. I bought a lens to go with it, of course, but I just want the one.....

Nikon's DSLR menu system is split into a number of sections dealing with shooting, tools, setup, etc. The majority of these settings can be saved in 4 user-selectable shooting banks.

It's all explained in the D300 manual, which is downloadable in PDF format from any of Nikon's regional websites.

The Nikon does have somewhat ugly bokeh, but the Nokton gets dinged on that as well (personally, I found the Nokton bokeh perfectly satisfactory). Maybe you should get a 50/1.2 for close and medium range shots with lots of bokeh - I've read that it has nice OOF areas.
