Herbs have historically been valued for their fragrance, utility, medicinal properties, and culinary use. Thanks to the generous support of the st. Louis herb society, the garden was installed in 1963 and renovated in 2003.

We are growing medicinal and culinary herbs and educating the community about the health benefits of our plants. We will be using our herbs to make soaps, oils, teas, balms, and salves. We received a grant from slow food st. Medicinal herbs are located along the southeast garden border.

9 am to noon may 13th seed st. Louis summer plant sale @ carriage house, 3815 bell. The herb garden is our outdoor classroom. Four areas are devoted to highlight a specific use: Culinary, medicinal, fragrant, and utilitarian herbs. Parterre gardens showcase silvery plants, while display areas feature unusual varieties of lavender, rosemary, basil, and sage. In 2024 more than 7,000 herbs and native pollinator plants including more than 120 varieties were on sale.
At each sale members of the herb society are on hand to answer questions and give advice on selecting, planting, growing, and using herbs. Shop more than 7,000 herb plants, representing more than 125 varieties. Members of the st. Louis herb society will be on hand to share plant care tips and information about the society.
